Le 801 Chophouse – Des Moines présente une décoration typique d'un steakhouse new-yorkais de la fin des années 1920, avec des cabines en cuir de marque, un mobilier en bois de cerisier, du parquet, des comptoirs en marbre et de hauts plafonds. Le 801 Chophouse ne propose que les viandes, fruits de mer et légumes du marché de la plus haute qualité et de la plus grande fraîcheur. Le chef exécutif, Brian Dennis, recrée un menu mettant en valeur des spécialités uniques toutes les semaines. Vous pourrez déguster des soupes et salades de saison fraîches, des huîtres en demi-coquilles, quatre espèces de poissons frais, des homards vivants du Maine ou encore des pattes de crabe royal. Pour couronner le tout, vous ne manquerez pas le soufflé au Grand Marnier totalement réinventé! Le steak à point, réalisé uniquement à partir de bœuf premier choix certifié par le département de l'Agriculture des États-Unis, les côtelettes de porc des fermes de l'Iowa pour toute la famille et l'agneau du Colorado sont d'autres points forts de la cuisine. Le restaurant peut accueillir des fêtes de groupes de 6 à 65 personnes, les murs étant reconfigurés pour s'ajuster à l'espace requis et à un placement harmonieux des tables et des sièges seyant à la conversation. The prime rib was excellent, perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful, enjoyed with a side of delicious sautéed spinach. The strawberry salad to start was good though the vinaigrette was a bit more tart than we prefer. I had a very good glass of Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon to accompany the meal. Our server, Paul, was outstanding, offering very helpful advice and being congenial and attentive. I didn’t like the table much (felt “on display” in the middle of the room while others were in booths), however we didn’t ask for a different one when seated, so that’s on us. We both thought it was an excellent meal.

The restaurant has been here for many years and is still a premier steakhouse. My mistake was choosing the Sunday Supper filet meal. Not as tender or flavorful as I’ve had in the best. The salmon looked amazing though!

As always the waitstaff is wonderful and attentive but not over the top. The service was timely and the food was tasty. It was my friend's birthday and her 1st time there, she was very impressed and loved the food. Maybe she will become an 801 fan like myself.

Laura is a wonderful server! She makes every experience great. Steaks had a lot of char soot this time...not sure why. Steaks still cooked perfectly but flavor was lost in the soot.

Fantastic Anniversary experience. Steaks were great as always but the fried lobster bites and mushrooms were on a different level. 10/10 recommend.

801 is our favorite restaurant in Des Moines. Anytime we come to Des Moines to visit our son we ensure to enjoy dinner here. The steaks never disappoint. My husband and son love the old fashions drink. Hashbrowns are always perfectly done. Price point is on high side but the experience and food is equally a high rating. Staff is friendly and customer focused. Hands down best place.

Our server, Skip, was fantastic and make an excellent recommendation for my wife's prime rib preparation. The seasoning and quick sear were amazing. The food is always great but the service makes the experience fantastic. We were celebrating an anniversary and they placed in a quiet corner and did some nice decorating to make the experience even better. Great work!

We went for our anniversary. They made little touches, knowing it was our anniversary, including hearts on the table and a free dessert. It was expensive which is expected for a high-end steakhouse restaurant. The food was good but not exceptional-tasting food for the price. The alcoholic drinks were excellent. The $400 bill for two people, including the tip, was for 1 Meatball appetizer, 1 Prime Rib, 1 Pork chop, 3 small sides, and 7 alcoholic drinks. Pricing was in line with other high-end steakhouse restaurants. The wait staff was attentive and frequently checked in for more drinks, water refills, additional needs, etc. The restaurant had a good atmosphere but was a little noisy and chaotic due to the kitchen being somewhat exposed and open to the central part of the restaurant. I'm happy we went for our anniversary since it's an upscale restaurant, and they did a good job. I just wish the food was a little better for the price but it might have been our food choices. We did not have a steak, which is their specialty.

This restaurant is in a great location in downtown Des Moines. The service is outstanding as multiple staff work together to cater to each table's needs. Food quality was very good and had offerings you don't see at similar restaurants like Ruth"s Cris, Flemings, etc. Prices are in line with similar restaurants.

The strip abd ribeye steaks (both dry-aged and wet-aged respectively) were excellent and done to the requested temperature. The spinach sides was so-so...I would not order that again. It wasn't bad, but uninspired. The brusselsprouts loaded with sautéed red onions were very good. The grand marnier souffle was pretty good...a touch too wet in the middle but tasted good and not overly sweet. The bottle of red wine (cabernet savignon) we ordered from Napa Valley was outstanding. The waiter forgot a couple of things during the dinner but otherwise service was good.

Having enjoyed numerous wonderful intimate meals at 801 I am so disappointed that they have changed their seating arrangements in the main dining room. Previously there were two more rows of cozy booths which were ideal for couples or parties of four. Those are now gone and replaced with numerous 4-top tables which allows the same space the host more parties and larger parties. We were there for an anniversary meal and as always the food and service were excellent; 10 out of 10. Unfortunately there was a party of 6 gentlemen who were seated right next to our table and were there before we were seated. It wasn’t just this immediate party but then the masses who filled the previously intimate dining room. The atmosphere was loud and the ambiance is tarnished. If I were to return I would insist on a booth as there are still a some there but probably half as many as before. To be clear, the service was outstanding. The meals were perfectly prepared and delicious.

Normally I wait till I have a dinner sponsor (someone’s expense account) before I choose 801. But this time all on my dime. And soooo worth it. Of course the food quality is outstanding but the service tops it all. GM Ben captains a great ship filled with seasoned teammates. Go and enjoy!

This was our first time here. Our waitress was amazing. Our food was amazing. We were treated like the most important people in the place and it was obvious that all the staff treated everyone this way. My only complaint was that it was difficult for my husband and I to carry on a conversation without feeling like we were yelling at each other. But, we understood it was a busy place with lots of happy people and that is to be expected. 10/10 in our books. Amazing experience all around.

Amazing! The food was so good. The service was fast. We had reservations at 8:00 and we were done eating by 9:00. The food was excellent. Usually when I eat an expensive steak I think I could have made it better myself but not here. Obviously top notch chefs. Its not cheap though so don't be surprised when you see the bill. Everyone was friendly. There was crowd in a private are with a lady who had a loud obnoxious laugh but thats not the fault of the restaurant. We don't treat ourselves often to a date night like this but I will definitely do it again and I will do at 801. Best steakhouse in Des Moines for sure! The service was 2nd to none. The waiter was very knowledgeable of what was on the menu and his recommendations were spot on.

Our waitress is amazing and so everybody else there was very friendly and helpful. I never had any experience like this before. The food was so amazing. I highly recommend for everyone to go there and try the food, it is amazing.

This was our first visit even though we’ve heard about the exceptionally good food and service over the years, we finally decided to try it. So glad we made it because we had the most wonderful experience. From the courteous and knowledgeable staff to the divine menu, we enjoyed every single bite. Pre-ordering soufflé was the best! Cannot wait to return.

As always fantastic service and ambience. Fried lobster appetizer was amazing. Steak and prime rib were not up to the usual standards we have come to expect. Both lacked seasoning and my wife’s prime rib was dry.

Always an AMAZING experience!! The staff are all great and will go above and beyond! This time was for 2 birthday celebrations and have a wonderful time with friends! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

The steaks was amazing, the atmosphere was really nice and our waitress was really helpful and friendly. It made for the perfect date night.
