I had never had oxtail before and did not know it had so much gristle. I believe the serving I received was more gristle than meat. My creme brûlée was good, but similar to what I’ve had at home in Santa Fe, NM. I was dining alone; a 54 year old woman’s first time in Paris. I love history and made my dinner reservation 4 months ago. I did my research! This place has such a wonderful story, that I recommended it today to a couple next to me at the museum. But the oxtail and 3 small fingerling potatoes did not impress me, and I did give them full disclosure. The ambience and history were enough to get me there. But it would have helped if someone threw a carrot in the pot.

I was drawn to the Precope because of the fascinating history and from what I had seen on YouTube. I knew that reviews of the food were at best mediocre, however I thought mediocre food in Paris would still be good. I ordered Coq a Vin. It was so so bad, the chicken was so overcooked it was like leather and the sauce was also old tasting. My daughter had the Vol a Vent and she could not eat it. It was bad. The onion soup was fair. I was so very disappointed as this was a special occasion and spending $100.00 on a meal is not often in my budget. I left feeling very disappointing. The bathroom was dirty. You need new kitchen management as well as someone with pride to care for this iconic restaurant. I would be ashamed to serve food this bad anywhere especially in Paris. .

The food was quite good, and the place, which calls itself the oldest bistro in Paris, is charming. However, they could not find our reservation at first, and though I had specified it was a special birthday, no acknowledgment of that was made. The service was slow and haphazard. One of the waiters seemed out of sorts. It was altogether a disappointing experience, and though we visit Paris often, we will not return here.

Everything was really great. Food was fantastic, had a reservation so no wait. Only negative was it took an hour for our food to come out. The kitchen may have been really busy. Waiters were friendly. Great experience.

I can only comment on their service as we eventually left without ordering, but their customer service leaves A LOT to be desired, especially for an establishment as storied as Le Procope. When we first arrived, the maitre d’ was very dismissive and refused to acknowledge our OpenTable reservation, demanding to see proof that we actually had a reservation. After showing him an email confirming said reservation, the maitre d’ still refused to acknowledge it and stated he would add us to their “walk-in” list but wouldn’t guarantee a table (although they had just opened another dining room with numerous empty tables). After 10-15 minutes, one of the servers finally came to retrieve us, stating they had set up a table in their “terrace”, which was actually a back alley. The final straw was that the place settings appeared used/dirty. We left soon after.

Not impressed with this place, I’ve asked in advance for something to help us celebrate my friend’s birthday which they failed. Food was ok, I personally found my duck was too salty, desert was a disaster tiramisu watery tasteless. Service was the worst we had to serve all our drinks ourselves, they clearly favoured certain customers.

The only knock on this place is Open Table didn’t work the last time I tried. It said I had a reservation, but I really didn’t. I seem to have heard other people mention the same thing.

On a rainy night in Paris we chose this popular restaurant because it was close by. We were happy with our experience. The fois gras was delicious and the rest of our meal was fine. We ate early when the restaurant was not completely full and requested a quiet table in our Open Table preferences. The evening was relaxed and pleasant and the old world charm of the building was an added bonus.

Very classy and traditional decor. I felt like going into a great late 19 century luxury restaurant. Staffs are friendly and quick. Plating of food is traditionally. Taste of food is good but not exceptional. Could be a better experience if they gave me a better table. Book the table from open table just 30 minutes ahead, so I guess I deserved to be seated on odd corner at entrance of back room

The foie gras with pistachio was very good and a large serving but unfortunately the beef steak was inedible. I have never been served a more tough cut of meat. It could not be cut with a steak knife. We sent it back and elected not to have anything else. I know they just recently reopened. Maybe they lost their good suppliers?

The Oldest joint in town. Step into 17th century Paris and immerse yourself in a great atmosphere with good food and nice service. Visualise yourself sitting in the same spot as philosophers and dignitaries from time past. This is the Procope, a piece of timeless history still bringing up a smile to both mouth and gut.

Food was very good and atmosphere was great. Service was leisurely which is nice but it was a bit too leisurely - took 3 hours for dinner and we had fading children with us. I think they were understaffed.

The restaurant insists they have no affiliation with Open Table. They did not honor our reservation per se, but found a table for us after a short wait. This happened to us twice during stay in PAris.

We discovered the restaurant while walking in St Germain. Loved the look and its history. The food was excellent-recommend the filet with bernaise. The ambiance is old world traditional with lots of historic references. Be sure to ask to see Napoleon’s hat.
